Dancing Days

I have many years of experience in dancing in ballroom, latin and disco, Dancing was always a big part of my life.

I first put on my dancing shore  at Stephens Dancentre Oakley Road, Southampton UK at the age of 9, taking all of my medals in ballroom, latin and freestyle disco through to the International certificate. Loving every minute of dance and wonting to go all the way, it was time to move on from Stephens so I joined Jordanz Dance Studio, Rowley Drive, Southampton UK  (Palmer Dance School) at the age of 14, and it was at this point  I moved more into disco as its much more fun.

Over the years I have done many dance shows and entered many Dance Competitions, Competition dancing is very hard work and challenging but they are extremely good fun and can be life changing in the career of a dancer. As child I was involved in regional events all over the UK doing  Dance Competitions in ballroom, latin and freestyle disco and on top of  all that doing show case shows and events along the south coast

I completed all my exams for the A.I.D.T.A in 1991 and  Qualified in freestyle in 1991 and have  put other pupils through their amateur medals and professional exams in freestyle,  teaching both children and adults.

It was in 1995 I retired from dancing to open a night club in bournemouth UK

A bit about Ian

Growing up

Growing up in the 1970 in Southampton

was no picnic.

(Proper hard bastards, wannabe villains and cockney wide boys everywhere you went) well if you believe that you believe anything.

I did grow up in down town Southampton and yes it was no picnic

The son of Kenneth and June McPherson and a family is made up with 2 sisters Janice and Nicola and 4 brothers Dean, Kenny, Terry and Mark.

Growing up was hard, it was hard coming from a large family all fighting to get the attention of mum and dad in a 4 bedroom house.

Was I  lucky to have grown up in the 70's,

Being a kid in the 70's was the best I could ride my bike to the local shops and for a 0.50p fill up one of those little beer bags full of half penny sweets,

I  could play games in the middle of the street and not have to worry about getting taken or run over,

We  were all free to be a kid and it was such much fun being a kid I  could stay out after dark in front of your house and play with your friends with out your parents having to worry about me.

We  didn't have to lock our doors at night or during the day for that matter, I have so many good memories I could go on for ever our parents let us be kids and all the bad stuff that was going on in the world back then they kept us safe and sheltered from it we were allowed to be kids but when we misbehaved wither it was at school or around the neighborhood by the time you got home Mum and Dad already knew so if I got paddled at school I got it again at home and if one of my Mums  friend were to see me do some thing wrong I got it from them and then again when Dad  got home,

I know I learned how to dance from having to go out and get my own switch off the tree and god for bid if I got a small one.

Before the computer

In times before the computer, playstation or MTV if any time was found to be spare it was either spent outdoors or inside watching tv or playing games we received for xmas and birthdays..games like Kerplunk, mousetrap, hands down, twister, tip- it, haunted house(with glow in the dark gameboard) and with toy car stuff like hot wheels, sizzlers, ssp racers and smash up derby.. I liked playing with my sisters dolls…. those were the days when as a kid life was easy and never a thought was given to tomorrow.
